How to Choose the Best Fabric for a Suit or Coat to Stay Warm this Winter?

How to Choose the Best Fabric for a Suit or Coat to Stay Warm this Winter?

When choosing or buying fabric online, we find its quite difficult to find the most suitable fabric without feeling the texture of the fabric with our hands and by not being able to see the pattern with our own eyes. So how can we tell which fabric is suitable for us? Well, with detailed technical information about the textile and clear photos of the woven patterns, we are able to see the fibers and texture via our mobile phones or computers while we are at home. Whilst viewing the textiles on our online fabric shop, the information below might be of assistance to you.

When it comes to choosing a fabric for a suit, we must put in mind the season and temperature of our surroundings. Sometimes, visiting or residing in a hot and humid climate, we might find that a traditional suit attire may not be suitable, especially if you are in Dubai or Abu Dhabi. We also find that the dry heat could make you sweat uncontrollably in a professional suit, especially if you are in an important business meeting. So if you are looking for a suit fabric in the UAE for example, make sure to understand that the best fabric to in the UAE will depend on the current weather and environment, putting in mind winter suit fabrics differ from summer suit fabrics.

For suit fabrics in the summer, its best to choose a fabric with a weight of 175 – 225 GSM. Just a reminder, GSM stands for “grams per square meter” which illustrates the weight of the fabric over an area of one meter squared. The larger the GSM number, the denser the fabric is in general, and such a fabric with a high GSM is typically known to be a heavy fabric type, which are associated with thicker textiles, but that is not always the case. The fabrics suitable for suits in the summer are: a blended woolen fabric, linen, or a thick cotton textile. For suit fabrics in the winter, choose a fabric with a weight of 250 – 350 GSM which can be a twill woolen combination, wool tweed, or an alpaca blend. Please remember that you will likely need 4.5 meter or 5.0 yards of fabric for a three piece suit.

When its really cold outside and the winters are freezing every part of your body, then I suppose you will need to get a coat. For coat fabrics, its recommended to choose a fabric weight with a weight that is above 350 GSM and you might find some weights go up to 500 GSM. The heaviest fabrics chosen for coats are: wool, alpaca, and cashmere. Typically winter coats are made from a flannel blend or tweed suit fabrics but if you want to stay extra warm and comfortable this winter, choose a thick woolen fabric that can be fashionably suited as a topcoat. If you are choosing fabric for a topcoat, you will likely need 2.5 meter or 3.0 yards of fabric. However a vest will only need 1.5 m or 2.0 yards of fabric. Lastly, the fabric specifications are critical in choosing the right fabric for your needs. Just make sure to contact the customer service agent or client representative to clarify any doubts or concerns you may have about the textile such as the width, stock available, or cleaning method.
