What are the Challenges when Offering a Tailor at Home Service?

The Tailor at home service or the tailor home visit is a new and innovative service in the field of men's tailoring in Kuwait, where the tailor provides a home visit service to take your measurements and offers to deliver the sewn clothes to the customer without having him visit the store. The tailor at home visit service has been provided since the last ten years in a few tailoring or sewing shops for dishdashas as a suitable solution for busy customers in Kuwait.

This article will discuss some challenges and problems we as a tailor shop faced in the workshop in addition to mentioning some recommendations or tips to tackle such potential issues from the tailor's point of view for anyone who wants to have this home sewing service, especially for business owners who operate a sewing factory or tailoring workshop for Arabian men's clothing.

The First Tip, before providing a home sewing service, you have to do three mandatory things to succeed in this matter. These recommendations will support you and help you in avoiding possible problems. The first thing you should do is apply one strict system for taking measurements for customers. You must standardize the existing sizes on one model for all tailors.

Since every tailor in the world has a different way of taking measurements for customers, it's best to have a unified system to avoid technical errors in cutting or sewing fabrics. We have uploaded a brief video online on (YouTube) for new tailor to learn how to take measurements using our method, this instructional video can be viewed at any time.

It is preferred to teach the tailor in the early stages on using an electronic measurement form at the beginning to train him on how to use the new system for taking measurements based on your records.

Second Tip, tackling the never ending adjustments after receiving the tailored clothes.

One of the biggest challenges for tailoring shops is to provide appropriate solutions regarding the terms & conditions of sewing adjustments and the unexpected changes in the home tailoring service. As mentioned before, we have provided three temporary remedial solutions to face potential sewing repairs based on our experience in home tailor visits the past five years of providing a home tailor visit service.

(1) The basic condition when requesting a home visit is that the customer must alert the tailor of any possible alterations during the delivery stage.

(2) All alterations will be performed within two business days up to one week & will be delivered by a driver and not the tailor.

(3) Any additional modifications or sewing alterations not mentioned on the receipt are to be performed within the tailor shop.

All this advice was mentioned to simplify the tailor at home service and must be mentioned to the customer before ordering the home sewing service in Kuwait.

Third, the textiles & fabrics that are available in the fabric  swatch book are as is. The color or texture of the fabric and the quantity of the textiles available in the store may vary based on the daily orders received. Such an issue causes customer dissatisfaction since the fabric he or she chose might not be available. However, all fabric stores face this difficulty especially when following up on the daily inventory in the shop.

So we advise all fabric stores to provide a large selection of fabric swatch books for the customer to see the textile samples in front of him and to offer them alternatives from the assortment of fabrics that are not available in the store. I advise all tailor shop owners to provide multiple fabric swatch books when visiting the tailoring customer’s house to accommodate the largest number of customers.

In conclusion, please be aware that the solutions mentioned above may not suit every customer because a large percentage of customers do not want to visit the tailor store at all but we have implemented the following standards and policies based on the numerous complaints and suggestions received from our customers in the past.

I hope these tips will guide you and be aware that you must be flexible at times and try to apply a unique selection of rules when offering the home tailor visit service in the future or the present.
